In this period, Christian Zionism movement showed itself all the more fully. Some of the most prominent political figures of Europe like Disraeli and Goldstone in England, Napoleon III in France, Bismarck in Germany and Mazzini in Italy had been important pieces in the Rothschild family; practically, it means that they have been considered as the proponents of Zionism thought. In addition to that, a number of evangelical priests in the western world tried-via diverse advertisement and propaganda- to make it a crystal clear fact that Jewish people have the right to reside in the Palestine. They claimed it was a religious necessity.
In 1814, Bishop John McDonald, head of the Christian Church in Albany city announced:
Jews must return to the land of Zion and the United States of America should take a leading role in the world.
Following him dozens of other priests, the heads of churches in America, provoked their followers to support Jewish immigration to Palestine. These priests played an important role in the immigration of first Jews to Palestine and their establishment in the land.
In 1839, Palmerstone received a note from Henry Essen, the Secretary General of Great Britain naval command which was written on behalf of a large number of those waiting for the establishment of the State of Israel.
Memorandum, addressed to all the Protestant countries of northern Europe and America, asked them to follow Cyrus, king of Persia, saying that God will fulfill through the displacement of Jews to Palestine.
Palmerstone gave the note to Queen Victoria who was known for her faith and piety.
In 1850, Ms. Clarinda Minor, the wife of one of the biggest traders in the city of Philadelphia, took some of the priests with him to Palestine, where she bought the land and dedicated to the construction of Jewish settlements. One of the town was called "Mount Hope" and was located around Tel Aviv in which she stayed with her companions for many years. She spent waiting for the reappearance of Jesus Christ.
In 1866, Bishop Adam transferred more than 150 religious figures of the State of Maine for the settlement in Palestine. John Adams (1768- 1848) was one of the first presidents of United States of America who demanded the return of Jews to Palestine and the establishment of a government that was independent.
In 1818, in a letter to Manuel Noah, Israeli journalist, said: "I hope we'll see once again an independent Jewish nation in Palestine."
One of the most active figures and prominent Christian Zionist movement, Lord Anthony Ashley Cooper, aka Shafts Barry (1801- 1885). He was considered the first algebraic Christian colleagues, as a result of measures in support of young workers and the humane treatment of prisoners with mental retardation did, the "great reformer" reputation.
He believed that divine destiny in the reappearance of Jesus Christ had a key role to Jews. In his interpretation of religious texts, he said the return of (Jesus) is not possible, unless the Jews return to Palestine and live in the land.
Donald Wagner, professor of theology and pastor of the Presbyterian Church says: Shafts Barry emphasized that "for the emancipation of the Christians, existence of the Jews is necessary" ... Although he was a proponents of transference of all Jews to Palestine, he hated them and believed that Jew are black-hearted and are arrogant and steeped in sin and moral decadence ...
In 1839, he published an article entitled "The situation and future prospects of the Jews", in thirty pages in which he asserted that unless Jews are returned to Palestine, they will remain discouraged, and one can always realize God's will to facilitate this return. Jews are the only hopeful way to create a Christian movement on the return of Jesus Christ.
In 1840, he published an article in The Times of London during which a plan for Jewish settlement in Palestine was delivered and called for "archaeological excavations in Palestine, in order to discover the truth of the Torah and the accuracy of its content".
Shafts Barry who was the leader of the evangelical party, insisted: "Each nation should have a home. Ancient land is for the ancient nation." This slogan was later changed with a little difference to "a land without people for a people without land". Shafts Barry explains that excluded people may be employed in the service of empire.
This race became known for superior skill and perseverance... its members can with the least opportunities, live in happiness because they over long periods, accustomed to torture. As a result of their return to reclamation of Palestine, the best way to meet the needs of these areas are sparsely populated. They will return at his own expense, without putting anyone at risk. They will also provide the necessary capital, they are known to make money.
Although such thoughts date back to twenty years before Herzl's birth, all indications are available in the Zionist project. In particular, I take advantage of the unusual situation of Jews in Western societies and their transfer to serve these communities.
Of course he was not alone in making these tunes, but at that time a considerable number of British diplomats and statesmen were consistent with him, one of the most important figure is Gladstone (1809- 1898), which is a famous politician. Although he did not consider the basic elements of the Christian Zionist movement, but actually took over Shafts Berry's project.
In 1838 Palmerstone, in response to the proposal and insisted Shafts Barry, Great Britain's first consulate in Jerusalem opened and chose William Young, who was considered a Christian Zionist and friend of Shaftesbury, Great Britain, the first vice-consul in Jerusalem. This action was faced with appreciation and approval of Zionist leaders.
In 1854, when Russian and Ottoman governments were on the verge of the Crimean War, Shafts Barry wrote that the region is now in chaos and bindings of a great part of the region will broke apart and will be subject to changes in many areas, due to lack of power,
In response to the question of to which power may Palestine be delegated? America or one of Dole East? Says not. No. No, this (Palestinian) land is without people, and God's wisdom and mercy, made us realize that people without land.
One of the most prominent supporters of the Christian Zionist movement was an American bishop named William. E. Blackstone (1841- 1935), which Jews consider him the father of American Zionism. The priest millionaire lot of political pressure in the United States to accelerate and facilitate the emigration of Jews to Palestine, to take.
In 1878, by writing a book entitled Christ is coming, he made a relationship between the "return of the Jews to Palestine" and "the second coming of Jesus Christ to the earth" construction bond. The book which was translated into 48 languages and more than one million copies sold, was the most popular book of the nineteenth century.
The aforementioned book exerted a great influence on the thinking of America and more than any other book stressed on the return of the Jews to Palestine, as a prelude to the reappearance of Jesus Christ.
In the same year, Blackstone established an organization called "Mission Hebrew for Israel". The organization is still active and with the new name "American Christian Fraternity", is considered as the Lobby Israel uses against United States of America.
He visited Palestine in 1888 and claimed that the agricultural and commercial development of the land is not possible save by its heirs who are Jew people.
Perhaps the first political pressure that Blackstone did through his organization was to collect 413 signatures of politicians, congressmen, judges and prominent figures in the press, in the United States, in order to emphasize the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine. In the fifth March 1891, he submitted the letter to Benjamin Harrison, President of United States.
It is said that the petition, more than the books of the Jewish State Herzl, had been the subject of the debate in the religious ceremonies and political gatherings.
Blackstone states in his petition:
Why shouldn't we restore Palestine to the Jews? According to the divisions that God has done, Palestinian is their state. It is their territory that have been pushed into it and it cannot be delegated to others.Once upon a time, thanks to the efforts of Jews and Jewish agriculture, Palestine had been a beautiful land and millions (!) Of the children of Israel who were engaged in plantation and most commercial activities have been receptive. In its course, Palestine was considered the center of civilization and religion.
Why didn't big states who based on the Treaty of Berlin, in 1878 restored Bulgarian territory to the Bulgarians and Serbia to Serbs, didn't gave Palestine back to Palestinians? The prominent figures of Jewish America refused to sign the petition and opposed Blackstone's plan.
Blackstone sent a version of the Torah in which sentences of Jewish rule in Palestine was distinct to Theodor Herzl on order to invite him to trigger Jews to immigrate to Palestine. That version of the Bible which is now kept in the hall adjacent to the grave of Herzl, is held in Jerusalem.
Another prominent figure who in the late nineteenth century, showed a great passion towards the immigration and settlement of Jews in Palestine was a priest affiliated with the Church of England (Anglican) named William Heckler (1845- 1931) which was dependent on the British Embassy in Vincyer. In 1882 M, at the invitation of Christian religious figures, a conference was held on the issue of displacement and Christian and Jewish settlement in Palestine to discuss Romania and Russia.
In the same year, the British government sent him Istanbul to visit the Sultan of Ottoman Empire to convince him to allow immigration and settlement of Jews in Palestine. In 1894 Heckler published a book entitled “The return of the Jews to Palestine” in which he focused on the urgent return of Jews to Palestine, according to an Old Testament prophecy.
Zionists refer to him as a "Christian love of Zion". In 1886 when Heckler worked as a dependent priest in the British Embassy in Austria, he met with Theodor Herzl and they became mutual friends. Heckler made use of information and communication, especially with political figures, to profit Herzl. He arranged a meeting for Herzl and Bull and the Duke of Baden, General Wilhelm II of Germany. By the same way he provided t a preliminary meeting with King of Germany in Constantinople and Jerusalem (1898).
Herzl tried to make the German king a new Cyrus and lead him to put pressure on the Sultan, allowing Jewish settlement in the land of Palestine is achieved, but failed to achieve this goal.
Heckler provided Herzl with geographical map of the Jewish homeland by the borders of the Euphrates to the Nile. He attended with Herzl in the Zionist Conference in Basel in (1897) calling himself his secretary, shouting the slogan "Long live the King" (ie, Herzl) and addressed the Jewish leaders: O children of Abraham! God calls you to return to your ancient homeland.
As can be seen, the nineteenth century, in continuation of the earlier centuries witnessed a systematic and widespread chain by religious figures of Europe and America, the aim of which was to explain the theoretical foundations of the Zionist movement and the establishment of positions, in a way that in the years 1800 to 1875, about two thousands of English and American authors wrote books on the topic of the Holy Land (= Palestine).
But it is worth noting that what was said reflects only the beliefs and positions of the Protestant Church dignitaries, and especially Puritans- the most radical follower of Protestantism who hate Jews and the Zionist movement. This means that there is no correlation between Christian faith and Christian Zionism. Moreover, most of Christian tribes do not approve of opinions and positions on the issue of Jewish and Zionist Protestants.
